Every iPhone from 2018 onwards, including SE from the 2020 model. iPhone 14 and later bought in the United States have no physical SIM tray at all — they are eSIM only.

Also most recent flagships from Motorola, Oppo, Huawei and Sony. Support on mid-range and regional variants is inconsistent — the same model number can ship with eSIM in one country and without it in another.

Phones bought on contract or instalments are often locked to the carrier that sold them. Unlocking is usually free once the contract is paid off, and your carrier does it — ask them before you travel, not at the airport.

No. These are data-only eSIMs and they do not replace your SIM. Turn mobile data off for your home SIM while you travel and you avoid roaming charges from your own carrier.
Maps and messaging use very little — under 100 MB a day for most people. Streaming video and hotspotting a laptop use a lot. Most of our plans can be topped up without buying a new eSIM, so starting smaller is a reasonable way to find out.
If we cannot supply the eSIM you paid for, you are refunded automatically — you do not have to ask. An eSIM that has been installed and used cannot be refunded, because the allowance has already been bought from the network.
