Japan eSIM

Plans start at $0.45 USD and go up to $86.50 USD, depending on how much data you need and for how long. That is the full price — there is no activation fee and nothing is added at checkout.

Allowances run from 100 MB to 50 GB. Maps and messaging use very little; streaming and hotspotting a laptop use a lot. 95 of our 101 Japan plans can be topped up later, so starting small is a reasonable way to find out.

Most start on first connection in Japan, so you can install before you fly. 1 start on install instead, and those are labelled before you pay.

Yes. The eSIM is data only and sits alongside your normal SIM, so calls and texts keep working on your usual number. Turn mobile data off for your home SIM to avoid roaming charges from your own carrier.

Depending on the plan, 3, 7acht, A1, AIS and AirTel and others. Speeds are 3G/4G/5G and 3G/4G where the local network supports it.

Your phone needs to support eSIM and be carrier-unlocked. Most iPhones from the XR onwards and most recent Android flagships do. A phone locked to a carrier cannot install an eSIM however new it is.
